Materials to your drawing

We machine all common materials. If the grade on your drawing is not listed here, simply ask for it, we can usually source it. Please always give us the material number, that way similar grades cannot be mixed up.

Steel

S235JR (1.0038), general structural steel for unloaded parts
C45 (1.0503), quenched and tempered steel for shafts and pins
16MnCr5 (1.7131), case hardening steel, wear resistant surface
42CrMo4 (1.7225), high strength quenched and tempered steel
11SMn30 (1.0715), free cutting steel for series parts

Stainless steel

1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10), the classic grade, equals A2
1.4305 (X8CrNiS18-9), excellent machinability, ideal for turned series parts
1.4307 (X2CrNi18-9), low carbon, good weldability
1.4404 (X2CrNiMo17-12-2), acid resistant, equals A4
1.4571 (X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2), titanium stabilised, for higher temperatures

Aluminium, brass, bronze

EN AW-6060 (AlMgSi), standard for profiles and light parts
EN AW-6082 (AlSi1MgMn), higher strength, good machinability
EN AW-7075 (AlZnMgCu1,5), highest strength in aluminium
CuZn39Pb3 (CW614N), brass, outstanding machinability
CuSn8 (CW453K), tin bronze for plain bearings and bushings

Titanium and plastics

Titanium Grade 2 (3.7035), pure, corrosion resistant
Titanium Grade 5 (3.7165, TiAl6V4), high strength
POM (polyoxymethylene), dimensionally stable, good sliding properties
PA6 (polyamide), tough and wear resistant
PTFE and PEEK for chemical exposure and high temperatures

Questions & answers

Which stainless steel should I choose, 1.4301 or 1.4404?
1.4301 (A2) is fine for most applications in normal environments. 1.4404 (A4) contains molybdenum and withstands chlorides, so sea water, road salt and many chemicals. For turned series parts 1.4305 is the most economical choice because it machines far better.
Can I get a material certificate?
Yes. On request we supply an inspection certificate 3.1 to EN 10204. Please state this with your enquiry, it affects the price and with some grades the lead time.
Can you source a material that is not listed?
Usually yes. Give us the material number or the standard and we will check availability, minimum quantity and lead time and come back with a clear answer.
What is the difference between A2 and 1.4301?
A2 is the designation from the fastener standard, 1.4301 is the material number. In practice it is the same chromium nickel steel. For custom parts the material number is the unambiguous reference, which is why we always state it in our quotation.
Do you machine plastics as well?
Yes, POM, PA6, PTFE and PEEK are standard. Plastics behave differently from metal when machined, so we check tight tolerances beforehand and tell you what is reliably feasible.
