Liquid cooling

When air is no longer enough

In AI data centres a single rack now draws 120 kilowatts and more. Air cooling can no longer keep up, so the coolant is taken directly to the processor. Around every cold plate there is then a great deal of classic metalwork, and that is exactly what we supply.

The market for liquid cooling is growing by almost 29 per cent a year worldwide, because modern AI servers can no longer be cooled by air alone. The diagram at the top of this page shows how the system is built up. For these installations we supply:

Materials

Copper, aluminium, Stainless steel

In liquid cooling the material determines thermal conductivity, weight and corrosion inside the circuit. Give us the material number and there will be no mix-up between similar grades.

Copper

  • Cu-ETP (CW004A), the standard for busbars and plates
  • Cu-OF (CW008A), oxygen-free, for high conductivity
  • CuZn and CuSn for connection and joining parts

The highest thermal conductivity, but heavy and expensive. That is why we always calculate copper parts by weight, not by piece count alone.

Aluminium

  • EN AW-6082 (AlSi1MgMn), strong and easy to machine
  • EN AW-6060 (AlMgSi), for profiles and frames
  • EN AW-5083 (AlMg4.5Mn), seawater-resistant, easy to weld

Light and inexpensive. Anodised or hard anodised on request when the part has to withstand the circuit.

Stainless steel

  • 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10), the classic grade, equivalent to A2
  • 1.4404 (X2CrNiMo17-12-2), acid-resistant, equivalent to A4
  • 1.4571 (X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2), for higher temperatures

For wetted parts, connections and everything in permanent contact with the coolant.

Quality and documentation

What your goods-in department receives with the parts

A part in the cooling circuit sits above hardware that costs many times as much. That is why we enclose the documentation right away instead of supplying it later. Tell us what you need with your enquiry and it will be included in the price.

Dimensional reportMeasured actual values for the inspected dimensions of your drawing
Material certificate 3.1Inspection certificate to EN 10204 for the batch
Leak testOn request, stating test method and test pressure
First article reportComplete dimensional record before series release

Tolerances to DIN ISO 2768, fits to ISO 286, form and position to ISO 1101. If your drawing contains an inspection requirement we cannot cover, we say so before the quotation and not after delivery.

How it works

Upload your drawing, quotation within 24 hours

No configurator, no forced registration. You send the drawing, we come back with a price and a delivery date.

01

Send the drawing

PDF, ideally with the 3D model as STEP, and DXF for sheet metal parts. Please state material, quantity, required inspections and your target date.

02

Technical review

We look at geometry, tolerances and joining methods and ask about open points before quoting a price. Questions come before production, not afterwards.

03

Quotation and delivery

You receive a quotation with price, lead time and the documentation included. After release everything runs through one contact person, in euros and with a German invoice.

Prototypes and small batches of 5 to 50 parts are not an annoying exception for us, they are the normal case. Large suppliers turn these quantities down and direct suppliers from the Far East demand minimum order quantities. We start at batch size 1.

Frequently asked questions

Questions & answers

Do you also supply cold plates?
Not as a standard item. A cold plate is not an ordinary milled part: the channels have to be sealed, usually in a vacuum brazing furnace, and every single part is leak tested. Our field is the mechanics around it, so manifolds, busbars, brackets, frames and housing parts. If the cold plate is on your bill of materials anyway, send us the drawing together with the inspection requirement. You will then get a clear answer as to whether we can make it or whether you are better off with a specialist.
What is the minimum quantity for a quotation?
From batch size 1. Prototypes and small batches of 5 to 50 parts are the normal case for us and not the exception. That is exactly where large suppliers turn you down and direct suppliers from the Far East demand minimum order quantities.
Which materials are possible?
Copper Cu-ETP (CW004A) and oxygen-free Cu-OF (CW008A) for cold plates and busbars, aluminium EN AW-6082, EN AW-6060 and EN AW-5083 for manifolds, frames and housing parts, plus stainless steel 1.4301 and 1.4404 for wetted parts. Surface finishes such as nickel plating, tin plating or anodising are supplied on request.
Can I get a documented leak test?
Yes, on request. Please state in your enquiry the required test method, the test pressure and whether every part or a sample is to be tested. This belongs in the calculation, because testing every part changes the price considerably.
How long does delivery take?
Every part is made for you, we do not hold stock. Depending on part, material and quantity please allow several weeks. We state the binding date in the quotation and tell you honestly in advance if a target date cannot be met.
Do you supply complete coolant distribution units or CDU cabinets?
No. Complete units with pumps, heat exchangers and control systems are not our field. We supply the metal parts that are built into them and into the rack.
